Involved with this study are Dr. Wim Back and, amongs others, also Drs. Gerrie van Oossanen (our physiotherapist) and Jacques Maree from Honselersdijk (our veterinarian when we were living in The Hague) involved. Within two days 6 horses (KWPN-ers) were examined by Dr. Wim Back and his team. Since Wim Back had treated Udor earlier (2 years ago) his history was already known in Utrecht.Therapeutic options for stringhalt in horses are limited. According to a well-known US farrier a special horseshoe should reduce stringhalt in horses. There is, however, limited scientific evidence for the effect of shoeing on this locomotor disturbance; a pilot study (n=1) showed some promising results necessitating further research on this topic.Treatment of a limited group of stringhalt cases with this special shoe should reduce spastic movement. This invitation came by here trainer Annemiek Vincourt (who is also trainer of the Syrian dressage team) and Karin was invited to participate in a dressage demonstration during the CSI**** in Damascus.
